Government Official Says Ministry of Defence Investigating Potential Threat from Vehicles from China, with Staff Advised to Avoid Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

An defense official has revealed that the Ministry of Defence is currently examining the possible security risks posed by Chinese-made cars, while staff have been told to refrain from discussing classified information in any cars.

Safety Advice for Defence Personnel

During a recently aired appearance on a radio station, Luke Pollard commented on reports that Ministry of Defence officials have been told not to talk about classified material while riding in China-made vehicles.

He stated that the ministry is “looking into” Chinese vehicles within its vehicle pools, but noted that safety is a concern in all modern vehicles.

We have a collection of tens of thousands of vehicles in the MoD and Chinese ones account for a very small number.
But whether you’re traveling in a vehicle from China or a car from another country, our instruction to our people is to avoid connecting MoD devices into their vehicle, to avoid having conversations at a secret classification in any vehicle, due to the increasing risks of surveillance that are present in all vehicle, to only have those secret conversations in protected areas. This is a wise and sensible thing for everyone concerned about safety.

When it was suggested that it would be wise for the ministry to cease using all cars from China, the minister responded: That is precisely what we’re investigating at the present time.”

Wider Security Background

This announcement comes as reports from Norway and Denmark have warned the UK to the presence of multi-purpose kill switches in Chinese electric buses, which could allow China to switch off buses and cause chaos to public transit.

Additionally, a Russia intelligence vessel has been shining lasers at RAF pilots, labeled a “extremely risky” act by defence officials.

The broader defence environment underscores the significance of robust protocols and vigilance in every aspects of government activities, from transport usage to discussions habits.
