Roughly 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then found numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state initial examinations indicate the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; investigators are currently not informed of any harm in connection with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities said they were working "to solve the case" and have asked to the public for details.
A senior political figure said the incident made him speechless and had to be addressed promptly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the murder of nine victims by a gunman focusing on residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
